The image is everything
I am a 26-year-old filmmaker from the Netherlands with a background in 2D animation and a passion for bold, visually striking storytelling. I began my career as an animator, earning my Bachelor’s degree in 2D Animation from HKU in Utrecht, where I graduated with honors. During my studies, I specialized in animation production and briefly worked as a production assistant at Studio Submarine in Amsterdam.
My graduation film, Human Recipe, an experimental animated short that I created entirely on my own, was selected for multiple international film festivals and premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Kaboom Animation Festival in 2022. After graduating, I co-founded Kat van Huis, a FLINTA-led animation collective based in Utrecht, dedicated to exploring and celebrating FLINTA narratives through animation.
In 2023, I moved to Berlin to expand my expertise into live-action filmmaking, completing an intensive one-year course in film production. Since then, I have worked on independent projects in various production roles, but my foundation in animation continually drew me back to the power of visual storytelling. This led me to take on more creative roles, such as gaffer, director of photography, and camera assistant.
I have always been someone who thinks in images. As an artist, I gravitate toward the absurd, the dramatic, and the visually unexpected. My background in animation taught me that there are no limits to how far an image can be pushed to tell a compelling story, and I bring that same mindset into every frame I capture.
